While attending the International Motorcycle Shows Atlanta stop recently I was able to spend some time with Mr. Daytona, 1993 WSBK Champion Scott Russell, talking about current events in motorcycle roadracing, both here in America and abroad.
Also on this episode, an interview with former pro racer, current Disalvo Speed Academy lead instructor and AMA Pro Road Racing crew chief Brian Stokes. We discuss Brian’s pro racing career, his role with the Speed Academy and his move from Graves Yamaha to Triumph where he will work as crew chief for Elena Myers in the 2014 AMA Daytona Sport Bike Series.
Episode 53: Interviews from the Barber Vintage Festival & thoughts on the state of the US roadracing scene
After an unintentional (and unavoidable) extended delay since the last episode we’re back with a fresh show as we near the end of the 2013 racing season.
Interviews from the 9th Annual Barber Vintage Festival featuring pro racers Jason DiSalvo and Shane Turpin as well as some thoughts on this great event.
I also opine a bit on the current state of the US professional roadracing scene, both here with our national series and abroad with Americans competing on the world stage.
As usually seems to happen this time of year I’ve spread myself way to thin and some things are unintentionally getting put on the back-burner for the time being. Unfortunately, Episode 53 is one of those things. I sincerely hope to and will try the best I possibly can to have some new material out in the near future. Until then, I thank you for your patience and most of all for your interest in Bench Racers International Podcast.
Vicki Gray is my guest for this episode with the main topic of conversation being the challenges facing Women competing in motorcycle roadracing at the pro level. Being a motorcycle entrepreneur, rider, instructor & racer, Vicki has some insightful views on this subject as you can imagine based on her involvement in numerous areas of the motorcycle industry and sport. We also discuss Vicki’s journey in motorcycling so far, MOTORESS.com and we do a bit of ‘bench racing’ to close out the show.

Episode 51: Rider Interviews from the AMA Pro Road Racing weekend at Barber Motorsports Park (part two)
As promised here is part two of the interviews that I did with riders at this past weekends AMA Pro Road Racing round held at the Barber Motorsports Park. The riders interviewed for this episode are as follows: Joe Roberts, Benny Solis, J.D. Beach, Michael Barnes, Taylor Knapp & *Cameron Beaubier. These interviews were done on Sunday, the second day of racing.
*The Cameron Beaubier interview was actually the first one I conducted that day but I have put it at the end of the show due to wind noise severely diminishing the audio quality of the recording. I hope your able to hear it well enough to enjoy but it may require the volume on your player to be turned-up a bit louder than for the other interviews. I’ll try in future to avoid having this problem occur.
As always, thanks for listening !!
Episode 50: Rider Interviews from the AMA Pro Road Racing weekend at Barber Motorsports Park (part one)
Round three of the 2013 AMA Pro Road Racing season took place this past weekend at the pristine Barber Motorsports Park located just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. I was able to get several rider interviews over the course of the weekend, actually enough to necessitate two episodes in order to keep from having one excessively long episode. In part one the riders you’ll hear are as follows: Jason DiSalvo, Garrett Gerloff, Dustin Dominguez & Bobby Fong. These interviews took place during the first day of racing on Saturday. Part two will follow in the next day or two (from this posting).
On this episode we speak with real roads racer Brandon Cretu as he prepares to leave for the 2013 running of the Isle of Man TT for his fourth attempt in the iconic event. We also cover Brandon’s early career, his transition from closed course racing to competing in the TT and his first time racing in the Macau GP in 2012.
Due to some scheduling conflicts Episode #49 has been delayed a bit but should be ready and posted within the next week or two. I will be conducting interviews in the coming weeks with American Isle of Man TT competitor Brandon Cretu about his upcoming participation in his fourth IoM TT and with Vicki Gray of MOTORESS.com about the increasing number female competitors in the world of professional motorcycle roadracing and the challenges they face. Thanks for your patience and your interest in Bench Racers International Podcast.
A brief look back at opening round WSBK action from Phillip Island. MotoGP Sepang / COTA test news and notes plus a look ahead to the upcoming Daytona 200 race weekend.
Brian Drebber has covered a myriad of sporting events for television over the last several decades. Many of those broadcasts were motorcycle races which has made ‘Dreb’ (as his friends call him) one of the most recognized voices of motorcycle roadracing on American TV. A life long motorcyclist, Brian has also worked on race crews along with owning more than a few bikes himself. More recently he has been doing track announcing at selected AMA Pro Road Racing events and some of the American rounds of MotoGP and WSBK along with narrating the show ‘Superbike Family’ on SPEED.
Listen in as we discuss Brian’s career covering our sport and talking about some of the stars of it that he has shared the broadcast booth with. We also discuss the state of motorcycle racing in America and abroad and look ahead to the 2013 racing season that lies just around the corner.
